What is Globle?
With over one million daily players, the geography test of Globle is an addictive one, requiring one to guess the country of the day. It is a free-to-play game and has fast-tracked into being a global sensation next to Wordle. The game is too simple to explain, yet way too engaging-to-the-brain: Do you guess a country on the world map? After every guess, you get a clue equivalent to distance from the mystery country. Every geography enthusiast or just anyone wishing to test his knowledge about world nations can have a blast learning countries while trying to challenge his brain.
How to Play
Getting started with Globle is easy:
- Click to start one round
- Type, as your first guess, any country's name
- You will be able to see your guess on the world map, along with its distance from the mystery country
- You infer your next guess using the distance clue
- Drag your mouse to rotate the globe and change its perspective
- Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out to explore the details on view
- Keep guessing until, well, you got it: the mystery country!
Tips & Tricks
A few strategies are advantageous in mastering Globle:
- Try to select countries from different continents for your first few guesses so that you can quickly pinpoint a certain region
- Pay attention to the distance clues:
- Distances under 1000 km/miles mean "neighboring"
- Distances over 8000 km/miles mean "way off in a completely different region!"
- From time to time, grab a world map to use as reference, especially when you're stuck
- Remember: there are 193 countries currently recognized by the UN in the game, with some of them being rather small or obscure
- At times, alternative spellings will work (e.g. Burma for Myanmar)
History
Globle was inspired by the viral Wordle and other "Secret Country" geography games. Developed as an open-source React project, the Globle game has quickly gained recognition since its inception. The developer welcomes contributions from the community and is thoughtful about some geographic issues such as disputed borders and the handling of territories for countries such as France and the UK.
